 Recap: UFC 256

Here's everything that happened at UFC 256 last night - MMAmania.com

Grade For Event: (A)

Picks Record For Event: 7-2-1

Figueiredo vs Monero: 125 lb Title:

The last PPV of the year brought the heat and so did the main event! Deiveson Figueiredo (20-1-1, 9-1-1 UFC) and Brandon Monero (18-5-2, 6-2-2 UFC) fought to a majority draw for the Flyweight title. One judge had Figueiredo winning 48-46 and the other two scored it 47-47. Figueiredo did get one point deducted for an illegal low blow in the third round and it ended up factoring into the final decision. The fight itself was a wild back and forth battle for twenty-five minutes. Figueiredo had the advantage in the early rounds with Monero making a run starting in the third round and gaining momentum quickly. At the end of the day, this fight is easily a contender for fight of the year and the rematch will be one of the most anticipated fights for 2021. Both guys fought with everything they had and it left me standing in my bedroom clapping to absolutely no one. I hope both men heal up properly and come back for the rematch, with a full camp for both, and give us a show similar to the one they gave us last night.

Ferguson vs Oliveira: 155 lb

Charles Oliveira (30-8 1NC, 18-8 1NC UFC) had the best performance of his career in the co-main event against Tony Ferguson (25-5, 15-3 UFC). Charles dominated almost every minute of the fight and in almost every aspect of the fight. He won by unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the fight 30-26 for Oliveira. He looked great on the feet, an area I thought he would have a little trouble with in this fight, and completely dominated on the ground. He took Tony down with ease whenever he wanted to and locked in a nasty armbar at the end of the first round that 99.9% of people would have tapped to. Oliveira showed that he is not to be messed with and can beat anybody at the top of the Lightweight division. He has slowly become an all around mixed martial artist and is a bad match up for anyone in that loaded division. On the other side of the coin, I think Tony needs to take some time off and regroup after suffering back to back losses for the first time in his career. I still think he is a top fifteen Lightweight in the world but he does have a lot of MMA miles on him and is not getting any younger at 36 years old.
