Breakdown: UFC: Edgar v Munhoz

 Breakdown: UFC: Edgar v Munhoz

UFC Vegas 7: Munhoz vs. Edgar fight card, date, start time and ...

Edgar v Munhoz:

Edgar(+185) MMA Record: 23-8-1, UFC Record: 17-8-1, Current Streak: 2 Losses: Frankie is a very important person in my MMA fandom. The first PPV I every watched was UFC 126 Edgar v Maynard II. For those that don't know, it was an all time fight and ended in a draw and more importantly got me hooked on the sport for good. A true hall of famer, Frankie is now on the back nine of his career, trying to revitalize himself with a move down to 135lbs for the first time in his career. It will be interesting to see how the weight cut goes. Fighters tend to have a harder time cutting weight the older they get and at 38, Frankie is no spring chicken. He is still one of the toughest fighters I have ever seen and should never be counted out of any fight he is in. He has spent 7 hours 15 minutes and 51 seconds in the octagon which is the most time in UFC history with second place being 30 minutes behind him. He is also tied for forth all time in total takedowns with 68.

IMPORTANT STATS: 2.34 Takedowns per 15 Minutes, 68% Striking Defense, 40% Striking Accuracy, 31% Takedown Accuracy

NOTABLE WINS: Swanson(UD,SUB), Rodriquez(TKO), Stephens(UD), Mendes(KO), Faber(UD), Penn(TKO,UD,UD), Oliveria(UD), Maynard(TKO)

Munhoz(-235) MMA Record: 18-4 1 NC, UFC Record: 8-4 1 NC, Current Streak: 1 Loss: Pedro is one of those guys that has been knocking on the door of a title shot for a while but has never been able to string the necessary wins together to merit a shot. He has one of the nastiest guillotine choke in the UFC with three of his wins coming from that choke. In recent fights, he has taken his striking to the next level and has become a complete MMA fighter. He has the forth most finish in the Bantamweight history and is seventh in significant strikes landed. I would look for him to push the pace and try and get Frankie out of there early.

IMPORTANT STATS: 81% Takedown Defense, 1.1 Submission Attempts per 15 Minutes, 5.29 Strikes Landed per Minute, 6.17 Strikes Absorbed per Minute

NOTABLE WINS: Garbrandt(KO), Caraway(TKO), Johns(UD), Font(SUB), Scoggins(SUB)

OSP v Menifield:

OSP(-105) MMA Record: 24-14, UFC Record: 12-9, Current Streak: 1 Loss: I remember when OSP was thought to be the future of the sport. He played football at Tennessee and when he first broke on to the MMA scene, there were not a lot of D1 football players coming to MMA. Times have changed and OSP's career has been one of ups and downs. He was the most Von Flue Choke wins in UFC history with 4 of the 6 that have ever been done. He has the third most fights in the Light heavyweight division and the sixth most wins. He also is tied for second with ten finishes with five of them coming from a submission which ties him with five other fighters for most in the LH division. Taking this fight on short notice he will need to rely on his experience if he wants to get his hand raised Saturday night.

IMPORTANT STATS: 2.6 Strikes Landed per Minute, 46% Striking Accuracy, 45% Striking Defense, 1.27 Takedowns per 15 Minutes

NOTABLE WINS: Pedro(SUB), Anderson(KO), Okami(SUB), Rua(KO), Cummins(TKO), Cavalcante(UD)

Menifield(-125) MMA Record: 9-1, UFC Record: 2-1, Current Streak: 1 Loss: Menifield is at a point in his career that is very similar to where OSP was at one time. A former football player with a ton of potential. He has dynamite in both hands and can shut the lights off at any second. The big question with Alonzo is his gas tank. In his last fight he had a great first round where he almost put his opponent away but in the later rounds Alonzo was clearly tired and lost by decision. This would be a big step forward in his career if Menifield can get the win this weekend.

IMPORTANT STATS: 85% Takedown Defense, 3.75 Strikes Landed per Minute, 47% Striking Accuracy, 40% Striking Defense

NOTABLE WINS: Craig(TKO), Moreria(TKO), Boatwright(KO)

Sato v Rodriguez:

Sato(+150) MMA Record: 16-3, UFC Record: 2-1, Current Streak: 1 Win: Japan has been looking for its newest star in MMA for awhile and Sato might just be the answer. A product of Henri Hooft, Sato's striking has been looking very crisp in his last couple of fights. He knocked his last opponent out in 48 seconds. His only lose in the UFC was to Belal Muhammad which is nothing to shake your head at.

IMPORTANT STATS: 3.94 Strikes Landed per Minute, 41% Striking Accuracy, 80% Takedown Defense, 5.1 Strikes Absorbed per Minute

NOTABLE WINS: Witt(KO), Saunders(TKO),

Rodriquez(-185) MMA Record: 12-1, UFC Record: 2-0, Current Streak: 8 Wins: Rodriquez trains a 10th Plant Jiu Jitsu so you know his ground game is something to deal with. He also has good striking to round out his MMA game. He has only been to decision twice in his career both of which were wins. D-Rod is looking to extend his winning streak to nine and catapult his way into the Welterweight rankings.

IMPORTANT STATS: 8.6 Strikes Landed per Minute, 83% Takedown Accuracy, 1.94 Takedowns per 15 Minutes, 6.81 Strikes Absorbed per Minute

NOTABLE WINS: Green(UD), Means(SUB)

💥Bonus Breakdown: Bellator Main Event: Bader v Nemkov: 205lbs Title

Bader(-170) MMA Record: 27-5, Bellator Record: 5-0, Current Streak: 7 Wins: With DC retiring and Jon Jones moving up to Heavyweight, there is a strong case for calling Ryan the best 205er in the world. Since leaving the UFC, he has been on quite the run in two different divisions. His striking has come a long way and he is now a well rounded MMA fighter. A win here would put him right there for best Light Heavyweight on the planet.

NOTABLE WINS: Fedor(KO), Mitrione(UD), Lawal(KO), Davis(SD)X2, Lil Nog(TKO,UD), Latifi(KO), Evans(UD), OSP(UD), Jackson(UD), Jardine(KO), Matyushenko(SUB)

Nemkov(+140), MMA Record: 12-2, Bellator Record: 4-0, Current Streak: 6 Wins: Nemkov is looking to play spoiler in Baders quest to be number one. He to is a well rounded fighter that is comfortable wherever the fight goes. This fight could really go in any direction and that is what makes it so exciting.

NOTABLE WINS: Carvalho(SUB), Davis(SD), McGeary(TKO), Lins(KO)
