Recap: UFC: Edgar v Munhoz

 Recap: UFC: Edgar v Munhoz

UFC on ESPN 15 bonuses: Frankie Edgar vs. Pedro Munhoz gets 'Fight ...

Grade For the Event: A-

Edgar v Munhoz: Frankie Edgar is not going anywhere anytime soon. In his first fight at 135lbs, Edgar showed the heart and toughness that has made him a star in the sport. The fight itself was very close and I had scored it 3-2 for Munhoz but Edgar winning is not a robbery. For the first time in his career, Frankie was not at a size disadvantage and could fight on the outside a bit. There are a ton of exciting matchups for Frankie at 135 and one that I really like is him vs Dom Cruz. At 38 years old Frankie has showed that he still has at least one more chapter to write of the storybook that is his career.

Best of the Rest: This card was wild, crazy and exciting. It didn't have a lot of hype coming into the weekend but those are the cards you always have to keep an eye on. The comeback of the year happened in the very first fight on the card when Trevin Jones came back after being on the wrong side of a 10-8 round in the first, to score a knockout win over Valiev in the second. That was the first of a couple questionable calls from the refs last night. The other was the Rodriguez v Grant bout. Grant cracks Rodriquez and drops him early in the round. The fight could have been stopped there but the ref gave him a chance to survive and he did. About a minute later Rodriquez cracks Grant and knocks him down and the ref gave him little to no time to recover and stopped the fight. The inconsistency is what really bothers me about this because it was the same ref in both fights. Finally, one of the biggest upsets in UFC history happened when Dobson stopped Agapova in the second round. Agapova gassed hard after a good first round in which a thought she won. Dodson just got on top of her and finished it with Agapova not being able to defend herself. Dodson was a +800 underdog which on some sportbooks was the biggest upset and others it was the second biggest upset behind Holly Holm's win over Rousey at a +815 underdog.
