Tanner Boser: The Canadian Bulldozer
There has long been a debate in MMA circles about what the optimal size is for a Heavyweight fighter. Some say it's the kind of guy like Brock Lesner or Francis Ngannou that has to watch what they eat the week of the fight or have to cut weight to hit that 265lb limit. Others say it’s good to stay in between 230lbs and 240lbs like Cain Velaquez or Stipe Miocic so a fighter can have a speed advantage. Tanner Boser had undergone a transformation from one archetype to another. In his UFC debut against Daniel Spitz, he weighed at 247.5lbs. He won that fight by decision and looked pretty good for his first fight in the big show. His next fight he weighed in at 246lbs against now ranked and still undefeated Ciryl Gane. Tanner lost by decision and looked slow against high level competition. It was after this fight that he made the choice to slim down and get trim. His last two fights, he has weighed in at 235lbs and has looked to have moved up a couple of levels because of it. He knocked out PFL Heavyweight Tournament Champ, Philipe Lins in the first round with a thunderous punch that made Lin’s head bounce off the mat like a basketball. Then, less than a month later he comes back, still nice and trim, and knocks out Raphael Pessoa in the second round with a laser left hook to the eye into some ground and pound. The speed of his punches and his constant footwork that results in excellent head movement has caused Tanner to look like a top ten ranked heavyweight.
This Saturday Tanner fights former UFC Heavyweight Champ, Andrei Arlovski. Andrei has eighteen wins inside the octagon over the likes of Rothwell, Struve, Mir, and a slu of other high level fighters over his two decades in the fight game. At forty one years old, one does have to wonder how much longer he can fight at this level but he is coming off a decision win in his last fight.
On MyBookie, Tanner is about a -300 favorite to win the fight this weekend(Sign up to start betting here https://bit.ly/32coRbB). I think that's pretty fair odds for this one. Mullets are damn near undefeated this year and Tanner is also the younger and quicker of the two, but don’t count Andrei out completely. He has seen everything in this sport so nothing will surprise him. It should be a fun one either way this one goes in the co-main event of the evening.
